Luca was born in Naples, Italy, in August 1975 and started his music studies as a flautist at the ancient Conservatoire of Music of Naples, aged twelve. In his late teens his love for classical music shifted to jazz, improvised music and the saxophone. Already active in the Neapolitan music scene he collaborated with some of Italy’s great jazz-players, appearing as guest soloist and arranger on the 'Cronaca in Diretta', a live program broadcast nationwide by RAI2 in 1997, and recording the singles 'Tutta colpa della pioggia' with the group Toubab in 1997 and 'Ma dov’e' with singer, Sergio Bruni.
Still in search for his own musical ‘holy grail’ Luca returned to his classical studies graduating from the Conservatoire of Salerno, Italy, in 1999 before taking the major decision, in 2000, to give up the saxophone in order to specialise exclusively in the clarinet. Since graduating Luca has spent much of his time in the recording studio and performing at festivals as jazz leader and composer and as a classical player at concert halls across Italy and the U.K. At the beginning of the 2002 Luca moved to London where he is now permanently based.
Luca has released two albums to date. PASSIONE, 2000, consists of original compositions together with the third movement of Poulenc’s Sonata for clarinet and pianoforte, produced by MAP, but his work to date has culminated in the exhilarating NEAPOLIS, 2005. Produced by Red Kite Records this invigorating album fuses classical techniques and sensibilities with the liberating improvisatory spirit of jazz, representing a fresh approach that, in the words of JAZZ UK ‘takes the clarinet to the higher ground’.
Luca has received critical acclaim for his music and is much appreciated by internationally renowned musicians for his unique musical style. He holds an intense belief in being true to himself and it is this that continues to feed his enthusiasm and passion for his music and art.
